Great housing news this week – new homes sales rose 11% in June! Headline News reported that one out of every seven homes sold is a new one. The upturn in sales is attributed to continued low mortgage interest rates and the $8,000 home buyer tax credit. Consumer confidence in the real estate market is returning, and those of us in the new home industry are keeping our fingers crossed that the confidence continues to rise. Interesting stats from the National Association of Realtors: 92% of all home buyers consider energy efficiency at least somewhat important with 46% ranking it as very important when considering a home for purchase. 50% of repeat buyers report that energy efficiency is very important to them as compared to 41% of first-time buyers. 65% of new home buyers report that energy efficiency is very important as compared to just 39% of existing-home buyers. 32% of buyers aged 18-24 report that energy efficiency is important, and that number steadily increases to 63% of buyers over 75. My husband likes smart women. That’s just one of the many reasons why he married me!
